No Mercy
The first campaign in Left 4 Dead, No Mercy spans five chapters with the first level picking up right where the game's intro cinematic leaves off; the Survivors are on the rooftop of an obliterated apartment complex, deep in the heart of the once-thriving metropolis of Fairfield and are told by a passing helicopter to get to Mercy Hospital to be evacuated. On their trek to the hospital they must endure Infected-filled apartment buildings, city streets, subway tunnels, sewers, eventually passing through Mercy Hospital where they finally reach the roof itself to be rescued by a News 5 helicopter. No Mercy is considered the most played campaign in the entire game, both campaign mode and versus. |

Crash Course
A new DLC making this the second campaign in the story, it begins shortly after the events of No Mercy and spans two chapters. Valve made this change in an effort to shorten campaign play to a more reasonable time frame. The Survivors start out by the crashed remains of the helicopter that had rescued them. The helicopter pilot became Infected, and was killed by Zoey, causing the helicopter to crash into the ground. It can be assumed that during No Mercy, when the pilot says he "just had an incident," he attempted a ground pick-up and was bitten. In any case, the Survivors must make their way through the streets to a recycling center truck depot that has a modified vehicle to withstand zombie attacks. This truck is thought to be an homage to the Dawn of the Dead remake's similar vehicle. This DLC has several new features, such as a spawn timer for the infected in Versus mode and different car alarm spawn points as specified by the Director.

When they arrive, they must work their way through the abandoned town until they ultimately reach a boathhouse where they may finally be rescued from the ravaging horde courtesy of John and Amanda Slater.

The Sacrifice
This is a DLC campaign that takes place after Blood Harvest and explains how the L4D Survivors arrive at The Passing. The campaign includes a new style finale where Survivors must complete three tasks. Although originally meant to be a L4D exclusive, VALVe decided to release it for L4D2 also. In the L4D2 version, you get the same campaign, but you get to use all the L4D2 weapons and SI. The L4D2 version also comes with No Mercy which is also playable with the new features.

Dead Center
This is the first campaign in Left 4 Dead 2. According to the game's developers, the campaign takes place in Savannah, Georgia, a city that has not yet been fully destroyed by the Infection. The Passing
This DLC is the official second campaign of Left 4 Dead 2. The Passing
takes place between Dead Center and Dark Carnival in the suburban town of
Rayford, Georgia. One of the main features of this campaign is a meet-up between
the sequel's Survivors and the Original Survivors. Note that the original
Survivors are not playable. The original Survivors appear in the campaign's
first chapter, where they meet up with the new Survivors. They appear once again
near the end. It is free for PC, and 560MSP on the Xbox 360. The title likely
references the death of Bill, who appears to have given up his life to save the
others. *Valve will be releasing DLC for Left 4 Dead, in which the players play
through a new campaign, leading up to the event, ending with one player giving
up their life to let the other three Survivors escape. Players start in the
Riverbank, making their way Underground past the river and to the Port on the
other end of the bridge. Both sets of Survivors work together to lower the
bridge so that the Sequel Survivors can drive Jimmy Gibbs Jr.'s stock through
the area. Similar to the Dead Center finale, Survivors must poor fuel into a
generator. |

Dark Carnival
This is the second campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 (or third, if you have the Passing DLC) that takes place at Whispering Oaks carnival. Survivors have to set off the fireworks of the Midnight Riders finale to attract a helicopter.

Swamp Fever
This is a campaign spanning four chapters which takes place in a "swampy" location in Left 4 Dead 2. The Survivors will reach this swamp and escape from it in a fishing boat familiar to the one in Death Toll.

Hard Rain
This takes place after Swamp Fever and is set in the riverside town of Ducatel, Mississippi. At the start of the campaign, Virgil drops off the Survivors, with a mission to find and bring back gas for his boat. They find a gas station, but it turns out to be empty, forcing them to walk 2 miles to the next gas station "Ducatel Diesel". To get to the gas station, they must travel through old sugar mill of the Ducatel sugar company and the company sugarcane fields. However, this is easier said than done, because Witches are naturally attracted to the smell of sugar. Once they have gasoline, it starts pouring down rain, forcing them to travel back to the dock in knee deep water while carrying the gas canisters on their backs. When they finally reach the docks to signal Virgil, they realize they have forgotten the gun bag, which contained the flare guns necessary to signal the boat. They climb to the roof of a nearby Burger Tank and turn on the sign, using it as the signal instead.
