We’re finally ready to kick off our new Events section of the site. Events are for all you L4D players who love to meet new people and just play some good ol’ fashioned Left 4 Dead. We have all sorts of different events planned already.

Our first Event is Achievement Hunters. We’ll put you on a four person group and you’ll spend the whole evening getting achievements that you’ve been wanting. For each event that you participate in, you’ll get a badge on your profile!
These events are strictly non-competitive so relax and have fun!
To sign up for the events, you have to register for the site. You can do so by clicking the door in the bottom right corner above the health bar and then clicking the ’Register’ link. Once registered, click the event link to the right. Read all the details and the rules and then click the Sign Up button. The day of the event, we’ll post the 4-person teams and you can friend each other.
Already have all the achievements? You can still play! Just send an email to zeldanerdster@left4deadsaferoom.com and let him know that you just want to help others get acheivements! Zeldanerdster is running this section so feel free to send him any questions you have!
We’ve been making a few small changes to the site. The user HUD is now on every page instead of just the Tournaments section. We also added comments on user profiles and team profiles so that you guys can communicate if you’re trying to recruit people or look for good players. All of this is to get ready to release our Events section of the site.
The tournaments part of the site isn’t getting much action. We’d love to have tournaments, but we just don’t have enough teams signed up. Events will be fun gatherings for all individual registered users to get together and just play for fun. Each event will be sort of like a Mutation. You’ll be able to sign up for events. Then we will randomly break everyone into teams of 4 for the events. This will be a good way for you to meet new people and possibly form competitive teams. Zeldanerdster will be running the events section. A few ideas for events are listed below.
- Achievement Hunting Night
- Sabateur
- Secondary Only
- Throwback
- Partners
- Scavenge Night
We’re currently testing the Events part of the site. Once it’s ready, we’ll release it and start hosting these events.
If you have suggestions for events, let us know by commenting below or emailing zeldanerdster@left4deadsaferoom.com
I finally got around to playing Dead Air BETA on the PC and making a video to show all you XBOX users the changes that have been made to it to bring it to L4D2. Check it out.
After getting little feedback on the idea of having a tournament soon, I’ve decided to leave it in your hands. Here’s the deal: We will host a tournament once there are a total of 10 teams in our Tournaments section. There’s already 2 teams signed up so all we need is 8 more. If you want a tournament (with prizes), then you need to spread the word, sign up, and form your teams.

We were originally going to wait until Cold Stream was released to have our next tournament, but it’s taking too long. We’re thinking about having a tournament soon. Let us know what you think and if you’d participate. We’re also accepting suggestions on maps/modes/etc...
Leave a comment to let us know what you think.
If this tournament happens, we WILL still have one when Cold Stream comes out like we always do when new DLC is released. We’re just tired of waiting...
Hey guys!
I know things have been a little dead around here and we haven’t been updating very much. That’s about to change. I’m working on some much needed improvements to the Tournaments section so hopefully people will start forming more teams and playing matches. We WILL be having a tournament when The Sacrifice is released and your team will be seeded based on how high you are on our ladder. That means the more matches you play (and win) on our site before the tournament the higher seed you will get.
I’ll also start updating the twitter feed more often so make sure you’re following us to get quick updates.
If you’re a PC player, make sure you play Cold Stream BETA soon. Since enough people are playing it, VALVe’s going to release L4D2 Dead Air for PC early! If you don’t have the PC version, now’s a good time to get it. It’s on sale over at Steam. If you hate PCs, don’t worry. Our site will always cator more towards you XBOX players!
One of my personal favorite mutations has returned: Last Man on Earth. To recap, they stopped doing new, community-made mutations for a while when people complained that they didn’t count towards the Mutant Overlord achievement. This is one of the few repeats that I’m glad to see back!
Last Week’s Poll: Tier one or not?
The results are in and it looks like you want tier one weapons at the beginning of Cold Stream. Personally, I thought it worked fine with melee/pistol only and I thought L4D2 could use another campaign like that, but what do I know?
This Week’s Poll: Tier two?
Where do you want to see tier two weapons appear in Cold Stream? Do you want them to randomly appear in certain areas like The Passing, or do you want them to always be in the same place that you can rely on? These polls are important as they will further shape the DLC campaign so make sure you vote!
For all you XBOX users, we’ve been working on posting our Cold Stream BETA walkthroughs so we can show you what it’s like so far. Head to our YouTube page to check them out. Once we get the last one uploaded, we’ll create a news post here that will contain them all.
In case you didn’t hear, Cold Stream is the next DLC coming out for L4D2. It’s a community made map. VALVe is all about making this DLC totally driven by the community. That said, they have realeased a BETA version of the campaign so that they can gather feedback. They’ll be taking our advice and making constant changes to the map up until the release. If you have L4D2 for PC, go check it out. Play through it a couple times and let VALVe know what you think by posting on their forums. I’ve played through it a couple of times and I’m very impressed. We’ll be posting a more detailed review very soon as well as some gameplay footage on our YouTube page.

Lately, VALVe's really been pushing for community content with the addition of community made mutations and the support for community made campaigns on the PC version. It looks like us 360 users are finally going to get a taste.
The new DLC will include the three remaining L4D1 campaigns. This is good news and bad. Although it would be cool to play them with the L4D2 SI and items, this means L4D1 will be even more dead than it already is. The DLC will also include a community made campaign made by Matthew Lourdelet called Cold Stream. This campaign is not yet finished and VALVe is asking the players to provide feedback so that the community can shape the campaign. Cold Stream will have nothing to do with the story so there will be no new audio files for the Survivors. If you'd like to give your ideas, head to the Cold Stream section of the Steam Forums.
There is no release date yet other than VALVe's trademark 'when it's ready' line.
Side Rant:
This gives me two indications that L4D1 will fade out. First, we're getting DLC only on L4D2. They aren't even attempting to give us Cold Stream on 1 and 2. Also, I've been waiting for them to bring I Hate Mountains (a brilliant community made campaign for L4D1) to the XBox. It's by far the most popular community map. If you can catch L4D1 on sale for PC, it's worth getting just to play this campaign and some of the other community made campaigns. But, it looks like VALVe is transitioning off of L4D1 and eventually will stop releasing DLC for it since all the maps are in L4D2...what a shame...
This Week's Mutation: Nightmare
Having a Survival mutation is our nightmare. This mutation puts you in Survival mode with a lot of fog. There are also no glows at all and the Specials have been "beefed up". The fog makes things interesting as you can never see where the tank is to light him from far away. In our opinions, this one's decent for a couple of playthroughs, but the fun won't last long before you are aching for some Versus.
..
CONTINUE READING >>That's right folks...just when you were starting to lose hope that the XBox version of L4D1 was ever going to get another update...we get an update. A good one too. Here's what it includes...
- For all of you who lost your achievement progress, apparently you can get it back. It will add your old progress to whatever progress you have made since The Sacrifice came out. As I had all the achievements already, can someone verify this in the comments below??
- Versus mode Tanks now spawn in stasis just like L4D2. This prevents them from being pre-lit by those nasty survivors who rush the tank with a molotov before the human takes control.
- Tank speed is no longer slower when he's on fire.
- Added vote to toggle All-Talk
- SI that causes a Survivor to stumble into a ledge hang now get 50 points.
- Bullets that first pass through an infected before striking a Survivor are no longer friendly fire.
- Versus mode car alarms are now triggered anytime a SI pulls or stumbles a Survivor into them.
- Survivor bots no longer try to melee exploding barrels out of their way.
- Last but certainly not least...SACRIFIZZLE IS FIXED!
New Mutation: Riding My Survivor
Last week was all Boomers and Spitters. This week it's Jockeys. This VERSUS mutation is nothing but constant Jockeys. They're faster, stronger, and healthier than ever. If you thought Jockeys were already hard to kill, wait until you see them now. This is another community mutation. It seems to be fun for the Infected team, but just frustratingly annoying for the Survivors...
..
CONTINUE READING >>First off, I know I forgot to post last week's mutation update. With the holidays and the new site, I was just too busy. We didn't miss much, though...just another variation of Hard Eight...
This Week's Mutation: Flu Season
This is a combination of two community-made mutations. One was all Boomers and the other was all Spitters. Flu season is a campaign mutation where the only specials are Boomers and Spitters. The only common infected you'll see is the ones that come after the Boomer bile. Both the Boomer and Spitter have been "amped up". Watch out for the vomit and the flying acid and keep your ears open.

This Week's Mutation: Taannkk!
That's right. My all time favorite mutation is back! As a Survivor, it's all about rushing as fast as you can to get ahead of those pesky tanks. As tanks, it's all about finding shortcuts to cut off and block the Survivors. Either way, it's extremely fun. This mutation returns as an encore mutation as it held more than half of the votes among XBOX users and almost half of the votes from PC users.

Once again, we get a repeat mutation this week. Survival Versus is back. This is a really fun mutation if you can find decent people to play with. Many people didn't like it because there was no time limit to start the round. This meant that many people either never started it or they took hours to set everything up perfect before they started it. However, if you can get enough people who you know will not do these things, it can be fun!
Now, on to the worse news...
There is no poll this week and no mutation next week. This is because VALVe is too busy getting things ready for The Sacrifice release on October 5.
The good news...
On October 5, we will also get a new mutation. Not just a repeat mutation.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're only doing this because they're busy with the Comic/DLC releases.

I think they ran out of new Mutations and are just replaying the most popular ones and calling it 'Developers Choice' while they come up with new Mutations. This Week's Poll: Whose back story are you most excited for?
The Comic is coming very soon (September) and VALVe wants to know whose back story you are most excited for. This pretty much translates to...Who's your favorite original Survivor? Bill all the way!
Last weekend, PC users got a pretty nice update. Although a small update, it dealt with some major issues in Versus Mode.
- You can vote to enable All Talk in Versus so everyone on both teams can talk to each other.
- This is good if you're playing a friendly game where everyone on each team knows each other.
- You can now vote to restart a single chapter in Versus Mode.
- If you have a teammate lag out and you get screwed or something like that, you can just vote to restart the chapter instead of the entire campaign.
- In a Versus Lobby, you can vote to start the game.
- Tired of the lobby leader not starting the game when the lobby is full? Now you can vote!
These all seem like minor adjustments, but if you play Versus Mode a lot, you know how significant they are and how much they'll help the overall experience.
Who knows when us XBox users will get this. Probably not until we get The Sacrifice DLC.
Last night's GameTrailers TV was nothing but good news.
Here's the whole episode. The L4D stuff starts a little over 3/4 of the way in.
The DLC:
The new DLC is called The Sacrifice and will explain how the L4D1 Survivors got to The Passing. In case you only have L4D2 and still want to experience how Bill died, the DLC will be available for both games. In the L4D2 version, you'll have the L4D2 Special Infected. The L4D2 version will also come with No Mercy as a bonus so you'll be able to play that classic campaign with the L4D2 Special Infected. Even though Bill is the official sacrifice, the DLC will let you choose which player has to be the sacrifice at the end. Once gain, this DLC is free for PC/Mac and a little bit of money for XBox users.
The Comic:
Over 150 pages that tell the detailed story of The Sacrifice and how Bill dies as well as some back stories for our favorite Survivors. The comic shows the perfect way The Sacrifice should play out. It will be rolled out in four parts.
Here's some screenshots from the video with a breakdown of that they mean...

In case you don't remember, Last Man On Earth puts you and only you against the special infected. No teammates. No bots. No Common Infected. It also makes a lot of achievements easier if you still need some.

Apparently people have been saying the Mutations are too easy. It was my understanding that Mutations were supposed to be fun and interesting rather than challenging and impossible. But hey, I'm always up for a challenge. In Iron Man, you have no respawns and no ammo. If that didn't make things hard enough, if everyone get's wiped, you have to start the whole campaign over (not just the level). They should call this 'Realistic Reallism Mode'.

CONTINUE READING >>For the past couple week's, it's been a trend for VALVe to post a blog entry on Fridays a few hours before the new Mutation entry. Today's entry made my day. Most of it was about them adding community-made campaigns to the PC version and changing them every two weeks. Yet another amazing functionality that us XBox users can't enjoy. Then they went on to talk about a HUGE sale they're having at the VALVe store. You really should check it out if you've been wanting some L4D merch. However, the most significant part of the post was at the very bottom.
Ever since The Passing was almost out, VALVe had announced a new DLC for Left 4 Dead 1 that explains how the Survivors make it to The Passing and how Bill dies. They had announced that it would be released about a month after The Passing (it obviously wasn't). There was also supposed to be a graphic novel. Since The Passing came out, there hasn't been a single announcement about either (not even just an announcement that it's been delayed). Honestly, I had almost lost hope. VALVe announced in this blog post that next Friday (August 20th) there will be a feature on Game Trailers TV on Spike at 12:30am that will answer all of our questions. I can't wait.
We'll bring you all the details and hopefully a clip from the episode shortly after it airs.

New Mutation: Gib Fest
Everyone gets M60s with unlimited ammo...and if that's not enough, you also get a Magnum. You won't find any other weapons (not even melee weapons) but for some reason, you will still come across ammo piles...even though you can't use them. Anyway this Mutation is a LOT of fun. Who doesn't want to tear apart a horde of zombies with an overpowered machine gun and infinite ammo? Personally, I love this Mutation and I'll be playing it a lot this week. Feel free to join my game or send me an invite if you see me online (zachmagic73).

I was wrong. Four Swordsmen is back for another week. The PC folk voted differently so they get Versus Survival back for another week. Well, if you don't have the Tank Burger achievement yet and you are having trouble with it, try getting it on an Easy Four Swordsmen match.
This Week's Poll: If you had one thing with you in the zombie apocalypse, what would it be?
Next Week's Mutation: Gib Fest!
A while back,
GamingHeads.com came out with some collectible figurines for Team Fortress. It had been announced that they would be working on some for L4D as well. That time has come. This Friday, they will start taking pre-orders for their first L4D figurine; The Tank. The only problem is the price. The Team Fortress figurines are over $200 so we can only expect the L4D items to be in the same price range...
UPDATE
- Apparently VALVe is still working on fixing the rage-quitting problem but that isn't part of the update. They just want us to know they're working on it.
- They finally realized the scoring was bulls%*t for certain aspects of the infected team. Mainly, you get no damage points for instant kills. So here's there solutions...
- Charger gets 300 points for an Instant Kill
- Charger gets 100 points for an Instant Incap
- Any infected gets 50 points for causing a survivor to stumble into a ledge hang.
- A minor friendly fire fix: Bullets that pass through an infected before hitting a survivor are not considered Friendly Fire.
- Tank Fixes: The Tank now goes into a stasis when it gets spawned in and leaves stasis when the human takes over.
- Tanks won't attack when in stasis
- Tanks in stasis are invisible to Survivors but Infected can see the glow
- Tanks in stasis cannot be set on fire
- Basically, this takes away the exploit where you could rush the tank and light him on fire before the human would take over.
Apparently the updates aren't over and there's more to come. Personally, I think they need to stop spending time on these minor updates and start working on getting the L4D DLC released that they promised MONTHS AGO!
Although it wasn't stated, I'm sure these updates are only for the PC for now and that us XBOX users can expect them sometime in the future.

Instructions for Use:
- Copy and paste the HTML code below in to your forum signature. Make sure your signature allows HTML or this won't work.
- <iframe frameborder="0" height="133" scrolling="no" src="http://aspspider.ws/zachmagic/default.aspx?gt=YOUR-GAMERTAG" width="367">YOUR-GAMERTAG</iframe>
- Replace both instances of 'YOUR-GAMERTAG' with your actual gamertag. It will appear on the GamerCard exactly as you enter it so you can change to uppercase and lowercase wherever you want.
- That's it! Your GamerCard will now contain up-to-date information of your online status, gamerscore, and L4D/L4D2 achievements!
- If you haven't played L4D or L4D2 in a while, it may say "Not Recently Played" instead of containing your achievements and gamerscores. To fix this, simply pop in your L4D or L4D2 disc and play it!
I welcome suggestions on how to improve this GamerCard. Feel free to provide your input below, but we prefer you to use the forum thread that has already been started
HERE. That forum thread will also be where we post any updates we make to the GamerCard, so if it stops working all of a sudden, check the thread!
The results are in. Both XBOX users and PC users voted for Chainsaw Massacre to make a comeback this week. That's right; we get one more week to have as much fun as we can without chainsaws! - No Boomers because there's no Common Infected
- No incaps.
- When an SI 'kills' you it forces the SI off of you. You then have to kill that SI. Then you're in Black and White and have to heal.

From the looks of it, the line will include a Boomer, a Witch, a Hunter, a Smoker, and a Tank. The Boomer was the first to be released and is now available for $50. Why the high price? Well, it's not just a plushie. It also makes 10 different sounds when you squeeze it, most of which are probably just gurgling noises. How cute!
VALVe Store
VALVe has also announced a line of collectable statues, as well as some "life size props". You can bet your ass I'll be the first to order a Bill collectable statue when they release it.
Someone with the PC version has opened up one of the files to find the names of 16 different Mutation game modes. Here they are in no particular order...
SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!...
- Chainsaws (coop) - Everyone starts with a Chainsaw (unlimited fuel) and a pistol (unlimited ammo), there aren’t any other kinds of weapons spawning, so it’s just what you have at the beginning.
- Four Swordsmen (coop) - Kinda like Chainsaws, except you start with katanas and no pistols, and there are only S.I., no Commons.
- Hardcore (coop) -If everyone dies, you have to restart the campaign, so no restarting maps, you have to restart the whole thing!
- Headshot Only (coop) - Self descriptive, commons only die with headshots.
- Last Man On Earth (singleplayer) - It’s you... against the S.I. (extremely scary)
- M60s (coop) - Survivors start with only M60s (limited ammo) and a Desert Eagle, once you run out of ammo, you’re screwed.
- Max Specials (survival) - It’s survival, with 8 S.I. at any given time!
- Bleed Out/Temp Health (coop) - Everyone starts with 100 decaying health (pills-like), there are no medkits, only pills and adrenaline.
- Protect the VIP aka Gnome (coop, versus) -There is a gnome next to you at the beginning, carry it through the campaign, person carrying the gnome can’t use weapons and the gnome attracts infected!
- Realism Versus (versus) - You already know what this is, versus with realism modifications.
- Linear Scavenge (scavenge) - 2 Cans spawn, get those 2 in and 2 more spawn, proceed...
- No Health Versus (versus) - No medkits, no pills, no adrenaline.
- Versus Survival (survival) - Self Descriptive, it’s a lot of fun.
- Madness (coop) - There are TONS of common infected, they are VERY angry and there are no S.I., you have enough trouble as it is.
- Versus Coop (versus) - It’s coop, with a twist, you play as the infected as the bots try to make it through the campaign alive.
- Realism Scavenge (scavenge) - Self descriptive, scavenge with all the realism twists.
For all of you with the PC version, there’s a mod that lets you play the Mutations listed above. Just Google ’Mutations Mod’ and you should be able to find it and download it.
Let us know below which Mutation you’re most pumped for!
I decided to show you The Passing in it's entirety. So I made a video walkthrough of a Single Player campaign on Easy just to show you what you're in for if you haven't played it yet. In the commentary I talk about my favorite ways to go, easter eggs, achievements, and my thoughts on the DLC in general.
SPOILERS IN VIDEOS!
In case you don't already know, The Passing comes with a new game mode called Mutations. Mutations is really a series of weekly game modes. Each week one new Mutation arrives and the previous one is retired. The L4D.com Blog has just been updated to give us even more information about these Mutations...
- Every Thursday, the new in-game blog will tell us what the upcoming mutation is.
- Once a month there will be a vote on which mutation was the favorite and that mutation will return the following week.
- First mutation is Realism Versus
- This is basically realism but in versus mode. Pretty self-explanatory.
- Another example of a planned mutation is Chainsaw Massacre.
- Everyone is armed with a chainsaw that has unlimited gas (ammo).
- Only playable in Campaign Mode
- The Blog entry also included this picture which we assume is the game mode picture in the Main Menu..
What's this business about an in-game blog? Personally, I think it's a really good idea to have something like this where we can get the latest news on mutations right in the game.
Another news post has shown up on the official L4D Blog today. Most of it was old news, but here's a simple list of what it told us...
- Mutations are weekly game modes. They last a week, then the Mutation changes into something different. They have over 20 mutations already planned. They will be playable on all L4D2 campaigns.
- There's a new co-operative challenge mode of play.
- There's support for infected BOTs in Versus mode.
- New melee weapon, gun, and uncommon common (all old news)
- 560 MS points for XBox, free for PC.
- Players play as L4D2 Survivors as they meet up with L4D1 Survivors
- Then they talk about a bunch of stuff that's general L4D2 that we already knew...
- To celebrate the launch, Valve employees will be playing on the PC between 11AM and 5PM PDT and on XBox from 7PM to 11PM PDT using special accounts. You can play with them by friending one of the following:
- PC: L4D2_DEV_1, L4D2_DEV_2, L4D2_DEV_3, L4D2_DEV_4, L4D2_DEV_5, L4D2_DEV_6, L4D2_DEV_7, L4D2_DEV8, L4D2_DEV_9, L4D2_DEV_10
- XBox: L4D2 DEV 1, L4D2 DEV 2, L4D2 DEV 3, L4D2 DEV 4, L4D2 DEV 5, L4D2 DEV 6, L4D2 DEV 7, L4D2 DEV 8, L4D2 DEV 9, L4D2 DEV 10
Just found out the official release date is Thursday, April 22.
Also found out what a mutation is. The new game mode is Mutation, which is really several new game modes. VALVe will change the game mode each week giving you a new experience on a weekly basis. There are more than 20 different mutation already planned including 'Realism Versus' and 'Chainsaw Massacre'. Chainsaw Massacre arms all players with chainsaws and gives them unlimited gasoline. These mutations can be played on any L4D2 campaign, but you can only play them if you buy The Passing DLC.
Along with The Passing, comes 10 new achievements. These achievements were announced today in the L4D Blog. Here's the run down.

Ever wonder how well 4 AI Bots would do on an Expert Campaign?
Well, it looks like The Passing just keeps looking worst. In an interview with GameTrailers TV, Chet Faliszek stated that one of the original Left 4 Dead survivors will die prior to The Passing. Yes, that means The Passing will only include THREE of the original FOUR Left 4 Dead Survivors. Yes, I know, they're called Survivors and it's contradictory to have them die. Seriouisly, Valve? You're going to continue your trend of releasing terrible, disappointing DLC? The Survivor will most likely die during the L4D1 DLC that has been announced to explain how the L4D1 Survivors make it to The Passing. This whole thing is probably just because they couldn't get one of the voice actors to come back..so lame.
The good part of this is that The Passing DOES have a tagline:
Nobody Survives Forever
The full episode of GameTrailers TV with the interview is below. Skip to a bit over half way to see just the L4D stuff...

Good news for all you hardcore apple fans...
Steam has announced that it's releasing many of it's popular titles for Macs. Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are both among these titles. The games will be cross-platform compatible which means that Mac users can be in the same game as Windows users. It also means that if you own the game for Windows then you own it for Mac as well. The two versions will also get updates at the same time. Mac users will also have access to all the Dev tools to build their own maps.
Just played through The Passing.

Well, now that the tournament is over, I had some people request to see the prize. Below is a low-res copy of the prize poster with a big green watermark on it. The prize arrived at RedLeafWonder's house a few days ago and he was very happy with how it turned out. It was a 18x24 poster at 150dpi. The prize was made by our graphic artist, bennetsy and she did a very good job.
